Met Gala 2012 Trend Report

What some may consider the Oscars of fashion, 2012′s Met Gala did not disappoint.  With many daring fashion choices, there will always be hits, misses, and trends to spot.

Red carpets always bring out the sparkle, and this event is no exception.  With metallics and embellishments,  these actresses rocked the trend, all with simple yet sleek hair and accessories.  Shopping Lonny’s dresses section, you are sure to find many similar shining styles.

Lighting up the red carpet, these ladies stunned in simple silhouettes created from bright hues.  With small but creative detailing, these gowns were anything but boring.  Letting their dresses be the center of attention, all three actresses wore clutches or jewelry in coordinating tones.  I’m loving stand-out shades in all forms for summer.

Plunging necklines are a sexy way to show some skin when wearing a long skirted piece.  However, I’m not loving this trend across the board.  Lea Michelle’s dress is not very flattering combined with that necklace, as it creates an extended-flat-chested illusion; Jessica Biel’s frock appears ill-fitting due to an odd skirt length for the revealing top half.  Camilla Belle and Claire Danes wear the trend well, with defined waislines, pulled back hair, and simple accessories.  To try out this look at home in a more casual way, the Ramona LaRue Chrissie Bodysuit is perfect.

I’m sure to be inspired by some of these Met Gala trends this summer, translating black tie  into everday wear!

Tickled Pink

Pink has always been a great color if you’re looking for something flirty, feminine, and fun.  The bright hue is also associated with many great causes, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  On April 30, the foundation hosted their Hot Pink Party benefit, with attendees such as actress Allison Williams, model Erin Heatherton, and designer Vera Wang all donning the vibrant shade.

Three Trends To Try Now

Today being the first of May, it is definitely time to not only wear new trends, but to transition in past ones.  Here are three of my favorite styling ideas that work for both spring and winter with just a quick update.

It’s no surprise that colorblocking has remained on our radars – it’s a bright, fun, and fresh way to wear our favorite shades.  Jessica Alba took two contrasting colors, pink and turquoise, and put them together for a great casual look, combining jeans and a structured blazer.  Pulling everything together, Jessica donned a white shirt and scarf.  To stay on both budget and trend, try this green 2877 blazer with any of the Standerd colored jeans.

Eva Longoria in Leather Shorts Look, Eva Longoria in Leather Shorts, leather shorts celeb, brown leather shorts outfit, brown leather shorts, brown leather shorts lookLeather usually epitomizes winter and fall, however paired with bare skin and light colors, the texture can be taken into spring.  An easy way to do this is with a brown shorts version to show off your legs, topped with white pieces, keeping the look clean and neutral.  Eva Longoria demonstrates this idea, stepping out in matching beige heels.  The Graham & Spencer leather shorts, Elizabeth And James Joana blazer, and Elizabeth And James Whitney top (tucked in) are perfect to create this outfit.

I’m loving all of these ensembles and can’t wait to try them out!

Fringe With Benefits

Minka Kelly met up with a friend for a daytime outing wearing her J.J. Winters clutch, and I’m loving her effortless look!  With a detachable crossbody strap, this bag is an easy accessory to throw on and add style; suede fringe is both detailed yet uncomplicated.  Going with an overall relaxed ensemble, Minka wore slouchy belted jeans and a loose tank top.  The Citizens Of Humanity Dani Crop Jeans have a similar cuffed hemline, but are fitted for a more flattering silhouette.  For a white tank, ordering a size up can achieve a looser style.  Add sunny aviators and espadrilles for a totally carefree outfit.

Look For Less: Colored Jeans

Bright shades are still a great trend for colored denim, and celebrities have taken to stepping out in this style quite frequently.  Lonnys’ exclusive denim brand Standerd created an affordable and flattering line of these jeans; you can get the look for less!

Cameron Diaz created a light palate for her pink pants, pairing the skinnies with a white tee and off-white blazer. This look, with its coordinating hues, is simple yet structured. The Alternative Apparel Araby Top is a great basic tee, the Elizabeth and James Joana Blazer a great white boyfriend blazer. This type of outfit is great because it is so versatile – from the office, to running errands, to a night out, it’s appropriate all around.

This Cheryl Cole ensemble is great for this transitional weather, as this shade of Standerds is richer than the others, with a  brighter green that is on-trend and multi-dimensional.  Worn with neutrals, these jeans can really pop.  Adding texture, on the other hand, keeps the outfit interesting.  The Krisa coated jacket has a similar leather-y look, and coordinating Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC keeps with the color scheme.

Whitney Port epitomizes comfortable and casual while out for a coffee run in her yellow jeans.  A denim button down matches two complimenting colors while reversing the typical fabric roles for a unique look.  With black shoes, there is just the right amount of contrast.  When wearing two bold trends such as colored pants and a jean shirt, it’s important to keep the details discreet and not overwhelming. This Stone Craft shirt, Standerds, and Yosi Samra flats imitate perfectly.

Pippa Middleton took her colored skinny jeans out for a stroll wearing a head-to-toe blue look.  Broken up by a large cognac-toned handbag, this outfit works since it is not an extreme shade that is accessorized.  As well, wearing a detailed sheer top with a white tank underneath creates a slightly different colored top and bottom.  The Red Haute top on the right has a clouded print set in a similar chiffon as Pippa, and layered with a white Splendid tank and Standerd skinny jeans emulate her look.

Seeing Stars

As obvious by my previous post, RaMona LaRue’s Spring 2012 is one of my favorite collections.   Therefore, I’ve put together a lookbook that is sure to inspire. Enjoy!

The Bridgette Top features a loose silhouette that is comfortable in all temperatures.  Paired with a pair of cut off denim shorts, this outfit it casual yet chic.   Gold jewelry tops off the look, with a long necklace and stacked ring set.
